THE National Council for Technical
Education (NACTE) has taken action against 48 technical institutions,
including deregistering 26 institutions for committing various offences.
The council has also asked 20 technical
institutions and two satellite centres/campuses to stop offering
teaching programmes that it has not approved or registered.
A statement
issued yesterday by the council’s Acting Executive Secretary, Dr Adolf
Rutayuga, noted that the 26 technical institutions whose registration
has been cancelled failed to observe conditions imposed on the
Certificate of Registration.
They include conducive teaching and
learning environment encompassing adequate infrastructure and
registering students with the right qualification. “The council conducts
monitoring visits to technical institutions to assess their compliance
with NACTE academic quality standards in delivering the training
programmes.
The council is hereby informing the
public that it has taken different actions against 48 technical
institutions for various offences,” the statement read in part.
The 26 technical institutions whose
registration has been cancelled include Marian College of Law – Dar es
Salaam, Modern Commercial Institute – Dar es Salaam, Emmanuel Community
College, Kibaha, Tanzania Institute of Chartered Secretaries and
Administrators, Arusha, Ellys Institute of Technology, Bunda- Mara,
SAMFELIS College of Business Studies and Dar es Salaam Institute of
Business Management in Dar es Salaam.
Others are Gisan Institute of Health
Sciences and Victoria Institute of Tourism, Belvedere Business and
Technology College and Hotel Management in Mwanza, St Bernard Health
Training Institute in Katoro, Geita, Muleba Academy Institute in Muleba,
Global Community College and Geita Medical Laboratory Sciences and
Nursing Training College in Geita and Litembo Health Laboratory Sciences
School in Mbinga.
MAM Institute of Education, Majority
Teachers College, Shukrani International College of Business and
Administration, New Focus College, Mbeya Training College, Loyal College
of Africa,Institute of Business and Social Studies, Green Hill
Institute all in Mbeya Region and Rukwa College of Health Sciences in
Sumbawanga, Mbengwenya College of Business and Information Technology in
Mbinga and Institute of Management and Development Studies in Iringa.
According to NACTE Executive Secretary,
Dr Rutayuga, the 20 technical institutions that were found to offer
programmes that have not been approved by the Council, have been asked
to cease teaching the programmes and follow the required procedures to
have them approved.
The said institutions include MISO
Teachers College, Mafinga, the St Joseph’s College, the institute of
Business and Management (SJCIBM), Morogoro, the Golden Training
Institute, Dar es Salaam, Nkrumah Mkoka Teachers College, Kongwa,
Dodoma, National Institute of Agriculture, Arusha.
Others are Musoma Utalii Training
College – Musoma, Mwanza Polytechnic Institute – Mwanza, Mwanza
Polytechnic Institute – Maswa, Ruter Institute of Financial Management –
Mwanza, Dar es Salaam Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication –
Mwanza, Dar es Salaam Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication –
Geita, Dar es Salaam Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication –
Bukoba and Singni International Training Institute – Bukoba.
Dar es Salaam Institute of Journalism
and Mass Communication – Kahama, Dar es Salaam Institute of Journalism
and Mass Communication – Simiyu, Richrise Teachers College – Geita,
Twiga Training Institute – Musoma, Zoom Polytechnic Institute – Bukoba
and St Thomas Training College – Shinyanga.
