Man thrown into prison for defiling minor

MLELE District Court has sentenced a resident of Ilunde Village, Festo Joseph (29) to life imprisonment for defiling a nineyear-old girl.
Trial magistrate, Theotimus Swai, passed the judgment after the convict pleaded guilty to the offence, admitting that he committed such a heinous crime to the minor, his neighbour’s daughter.

In his ruling, magistrate Swai said that although the convict had no previous record of wrongdoing, and apart from pleading guilty, passed the harsh sentence to serve as deterrent to would-be culprits.
“The act you committed to the minor is both inhuman and barbaric.

I therefore sentence you to life imprisonment,” he ruled.

Prosecuting Inspector of Police, Baraka Hongoli, said before the court that the convict committed the offence on November 10 this year at Ilunde village.

He said on the material day the convict went to the girl’s house and told her that her father had sent him to look for dried grass for thatching their house.

The innocent girl was alone at the house when the convict arrived.

It was further adduced in court that the minor girl succumbed to the lies of the convict.
