Sitta’s body arrives in Dar today, burial on Saturday in Urambo

THE body of former Speaker of the National Assembly and cabinet minister Samuel Sitta is scheduled for arrival in Dar es Salaam today afternoon ahead of his burial slated for Saturday in Urambo, Tabora Region.
According to a press statement availed to the ‘Daily News’ yesterday by Information Services (Maelezo), the plane carrying the casket of former Speaker of the Ninth Parliament and Chairman of the Constituent Assembly will touch down at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) at 3pm today.

It will be received by various national leaders at JNIA’s terminal I. It read that the funeral programme was issued by the Prime Minister’s Office and on arrival, the body will be taken to his residence at Masaki in Dar es Salaam.

National leaders and other mourners will be allowed to pay their last respects tomorrow from 7:30 am, before it is transported to Dodoma, where other leaders of the National Assembly and Members of Parliament (MPs) will also have an opportunity to view the body and pay their last respects.

A spokesperson of the family, Mr Gerald Mongela, said the late Sitta, widely referred to as the man of ‘Speed and Standard,” will be finally laid to rest on Saturday at his birthplace in Urambo District.

“After the last respects, the casket bearing the body of our beloved family man will be flown to Dodoma to enable Members of Parliament (MPs) to pay their last respects, subject to the logistics by the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly,’’ he said, adding,

“The MPs shall spend less than two hours for the exercise and thereafter the body will be flown to Urambo for burial.”

The statement read that the body will then be flown to Urambo District in Tabora Region on the same day for his electorate to pay their last respects on Saturday, before his burial scheduled on the same day.
