FIRE and Rescue Force (FRF) has
appreciated the government intention to support them with working
equipment, including vehicles and fire extinguishing machines.
FRF Commissioner Thobias Andengenye
sounded the appreciation during his recent tour of Songwe and Mbeya
regions where he held talks with the department’s staff.
“In the financial year 2016/2017, the
government has allocated 1.5bn/-for the purchase of various equipment
used in extinguishing fire and rescue exercises,” he said, noting that
the budgeted amount will only help in adding working equipment and
improving the services but cannot address all the current challenges.
In another development, Mr Andengenye
said the department has launched a special program of teaching
individuals how to deal with fire accidents and at the same time
motivating them to install fire detecting devices in their buildings.
He also reminded the staff to abide by
the work ethics especially at this time when the department is facing a
number of challenges.
Mbeya Region FRF Commander Augustino Mwandofu
urged communities to head advices that the FRF staff give to save
themselves from avoidable fire accidents.
