THE Prime Minister, Mr Kassim
Majaliwa, has appealed to the British government to mobilise more
investors to come and invest in Tanzania’s industrial sector.
He made the appeal yesterday in Dodoma
when he met the British High Commissioner to Tanzania, Ms Sarah Cooke.
“Help us to invite more investors in the areas of agriculture,
manufacturing and processing industry, fishing, oil and gas industry,
energy and house construction in particular in Dodoma Region, which is
now the designated capital city,” he said .
Mr Majaliwa told the envoy that Tanzania
was determined to become the middle-income country and, therefore, it
was prepared to have enough factories, which will generate more
employment opportunities.
The Premier also used the opportunity to
express gratitude to the United Kingdom for its massive support on
construction of houses for teachers and school in Kagera Region, which
were hit by earthquake that occurred on September 10.
On her side, Ms
Cooke who paid a courtesy call to the minister said she was impressed by
the efforts made by the government of Tanzania in response to the issue
of corruption.
“Your zero tolerance on corruption shows
how committed you are to fight this problem once and for all,” she said
She said Britain was leading among countries with most investors in the
country and that it was pursuing its investment programme that focuses
on four key areas of oil and gas, agriculture, renewable energy and
intensification of business environment.
Ambassador Cooke also used the
opportunity to send her condolences to the government following the
death of the former Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the
Constituent Assembly, Samuel Sitta, who died on Monday at the Technical
University Hospital in Munich, German, where he was receiving treatment.
