PRIME Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa, has
called upon businesspeople and citizens who have been mistreated by Tanzania
Revenue Authority (TRA) officials to file their complaints to respective
authorities so that disciplinary measures can be taken against them.
He said in the National Assembly here
yesterday that he has received a number of complaints from the business
community voicing concern over mistreatment by TRA officials who don’t follow
rules in revenue collection. “It’s true that our economy and our services
depend on revenue collection, but we should not frustrate tax-payers.
We should treat them fairly,” he said.He
made the remarks in response to a question by Rita Kabati (Special Seats-CCM)
who wanted to know measures taken by the government against TRA officials who
mistreat taxpayers during payment of taxes.
The premier said “there is a disciplinary
body that deals with such matters at the TRA and those aggrieved should file
such complaints to that body for action.”
Mr Majaliwa promised that the government
would continue working closely with the business community to achieve national
development goals. “TRA officials should be guided by ethics in their service
delivery and the government will not hesitate to take action against
offenders,” he said.
