Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has come under fire after a photo of him together with American rapper Fat Joe emerged on social media.
Joho, who recently sparked a hullabaloo after hosting RnB superstar Chris Brown in his County, was captured enjoying the company of Joe in a brotherly embrace during his visit to Dubai last week.
It is these flashy antics that seem to have rubbed Coast Regional Co-ordinator Nelson Marwa in the wrong way. According to Marwa, Joho is engaging in unproductive ventures instead of starting development projects to empower the youth.
Speaking in Mombasa during the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Marwa questioned how bringing international musicians in Mombasa would help create jobs for the youth.
“By bringing international artists here, how productive is that? How will that help in resolving joblessness?" Marwa posed.
The Coast regional co-ordinator urged Joho to create more jobs instead of splashing millions on musicians who were not adding value to the lives of the youth.
Mombasa recently hit headlines after hosting a mega-concert that was graced by Chris Brown, Nigerian singer Wizkid among other high-profile artistes.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Joho is planning another show that will see female American rapper Nicki Minaj and Fat Joe jet into the country.
The attack comes barely a month after Former Kiss 100 FM presenter Caroline Mutoko criticised Joho over his poor strategy of marketing Mombasa.
Ms Mutoko took issue with Joho’s strategy in marketing Mombasa to the world noting that he had allowed politics to play in the governance of the City, meant to attract thousands of tourists.
“I worry that for the smart person Governor Joho is, he does not have the right structural blueprint to turn Mombasa into what it needs to be,” Mutoko stated.
