Guard detained for gunning down man while escorting cash van

Police in south China's Guangdong have detained a security guard for gunning down a man while escorting a cash carrier last week.

Authorities in Dongguan City said the decision to detain the guard was made after they collected certain evidence.

Police say further investigations are still underway.

A man was shot dead by security guards in Chang'an Town on Wednesday, after striking the window of a cash transportation vehicle with a brick.

The man, from Jiangxi Province surnamed Huang, was killed by rubber bullets intended as warning shots after he ignored several warnings to stop attacking the vehicle.

Local authorities have released a statement saying that the victim had attacked the vehicle with bricks, stones, and other objects, smashing a window.

The guards have been criticised on social media for using excessive force.
