CONSERVATIONISTS have pointed out
that increased human activities around Tarangire National Park and
adjacent areas pose another alarming threat to the survival of the
wildlife in the country.
A senior Researcher with Tanzania
Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) Mr Edward Kohi told a team of
Tanzania Journalists for Conservation (TJC) at the park recently that
rapid increase in agricultural activities has led to the loss of
migration routes of wild animals and search for water points, creating a
disturbance to the animals to and from the park.
“Increased human activities around the
park is a serious threat that if not combated, may cause loss of the
migrating animals in the park,” he said noting that urgent measures are
needed to help reverse the situation which is already worsening.
Mr Kohi said that apart from blocking
the migration corridors and dispersal areas, human activities also lead
to loss of natural habitat of the animals.
