DAR ES SAAM Regional Commissioner
(RC) Paul Makonda plans to spend 10bn/- in the construction of 20 police
stations to improving security in the city.
The planned 20 stations are
among the strategies to ensure good working environment for the law
enforcers, to encourage hard work.
Mr Makonda, speaking during his tour of
various police posts in the region yesterday, said the ambitious plan is
subject to support from various stakeholders and Dar es Salaam
residents.
“I believe that stakeholders will give
us support to accomplish the goal of having big police stations to
improve security within residential areas, with each district having
four big stations,” he said. The RC said the big police stations were
inevitable in the city to control escalating crimes in the city.
“We hope that the (police) stations in
the residential areas will help to reduce crimes...the biggest challenge
the police face is the small size of their stations,” he said, pointing
out that each envisaged police station will cost 500m/-.
He called on Dar es Salam residents to
collaborate with police force in maintaining security for peaceful
living. Some of the police stations that the RC visited include Tandika,
Kigogo, Gongo la Mboto, Mburahati, Mazizini and Mwenge.
